MSRC Weekly Meeting 13/10/22
Details from this week’s meeting. Any questions or comments, please contact us here
Merch
- We were considering using 3 suppliers for items for cost effectiveness
- But decided 2 suppliers for semester 1 distribution for hoodies, fleeces, sweatshirts, and ¾ zip sweats
- Discussed the possibility of second merch sale next semester for more niche items like water bottles, tote bags
- Goal is to have all details ready for next Thursdays meeting and listing items
MUMS
- Discussion about 3 mums reps next year to share the work
- Exec relayed communications with medical school staff around complaints in meet the MUMs session
Assessment Reps
- Jen Hallam is very keen for an assessment rep to be created but MSRC do not want to make another role, so assigning one of each of the 3 year reps the role of designated assessment rep would be better
Respite Café
- A concept meant to combat the cost of living crisis, in the early stages of plans, going to be open in Worsley, comms received by Emma Bentley and Andrea McGovern.
- Freya and Sannah had a similar idea to continue the helping hands scheme – starting a food/sanitary products collection point in APL and this could be given to the respite café to distribute to students
- Importance of collection bags being brown paper bags for discretion
- Collection of items to be available from MTC reception if people don’t want to collect items in front of friends
Elections
- Engagement with elections is still low, and adding to the problem is that LUU payments are down right now so nobody can nominate themselves
- Election will be extended until next Wednesday
AOB
- Streamlining year reps and adding designated roles to each year rep going forward
- EDI reps working on asking the school to create a new mural in APL / Health Sciences representing diversity of the students produced by Leeds Medical School
- Potential for MSRC to fundraise for the mural design
- Nafi wants to host a Mario Kart tournament as a non-drinking event for medics
