MSRC Statement 03/03/23

Dear students,

MSRC are wanting to clear a few things up regarding the junior doctor strikes and the post by @ollieburtonmed going round asking 5th year students to volunteer as clinical support workers.

The email sent asking 5th year students to work as clinical support workers originated from Leeds teaching hospitals trust and NOT from the medical school. This role is entirely voluntary and student should not feel pressured to take on this role if they do not feel able to do so. If they do wish to volunteer, we encourage you to stay firm and resist any pressure to act outside of a clinical support worker role.

We have collated all year groups feedback regarding the strikes, along with the letter from the Doctors Association UK, and have sent this onto the medical school - we are currently awaiting a response. We highly anticipate more communication to come from the medical school soon, so we have not yet commented on the earlier communications regarding strikes and will revisit this if there is no update.

If you have any further concerns please contact your year reps and we will get back to you.

Best wishes

The Medical Students’ Representative Council at University of Leeds
